Let Tech Bring Your Family Together This Summer

Last Updated on May 16, 2017 by Sohail Qaisar

Technology impacts more than just the individual. It impacts the entire family unit by providing you with opportunities for bonding and learning. Technology has changed the way modern families interact with one another, as well it’s improved family bonding by providing more opportunities for group activities. The key to using technology to have a great family experience is to choose activities that promote togetherness, and that everyone can get involved in.

Family Tech Activities for a Fun Filled Summer

Summer isn’t meant for indoors, but neither is technology anymore. There’s all sorts of technology available to help promote outdoor activity. For example, you and your kids can go on a geocaching adventure.

Use your GPS to locate geocache treasures, which are marked clearly on GPS units. Keep in mind, not all of these treasures will be easy to get to. Some may require a fair amount of hiking. Only look for difficult treasures when you’re traveling with experienced hikers; for the little ones, you are best served looking for treasures along short, flat paths.

Photography and videography are also fun, technical ways to have a great summer. Underwater cameras are great for the pool, and traditional cameras (cell phones, digital cameras, etc.) are perfect for taking photos and make videos. Not only do cameras promote creativity and imaginative play, they also provide lasting memories your family can return to.

Rainy Day Family Time

There’s a lot you can do indoors that’s fun, and also includes high-tech gadgets. You can use free apps, such as YoYo Games and Sploder, to make your own video games. Or, you can host a family game night on the Xbox, which includes classic titles, such as Sorry and Monopoly.

Today’s movie nights are fun-filled tech adventures. Most households have flat-screen, HD televisions which make watching movies at home more like watching them in the theater. Technology has really impacted the way families view media.

You don’t even have to leave the house to rent a new release. Services such as Direct TV on demand, allow you to instantly rent and stream the latest titles; many of which are available in 3D. What is on Direct TV on demand? It’s a service that allows you to choose instant programming, including thousands of new movies and television shows.

Family-friendly entertainment is readily available both on your television, and on all your connected devices. There are so many multi-player games available in both the Android and App Store. Many of these games are free, so there’s really no excuse not to enjoy them as a family. And, they’re designed to be played on a single phone or tablet. You’ll need to pass it around, which promotes sharing and communication.

Overall, tech doesn’t have to be an individual activity or a time-waster. It can be the one thing that brings your family together this summer, and promotes activity and movement. It can help you plan and execute memorable family activities, which will make summer and all the seasons to come about bonding.
