5 Apps You Might Want For The Summer World Cup

Last Updated on May 7, 2018 by Sohail Qaisar

Mobile technology loves a good event. When augmented reality was announced last fall, we immediately saw a whole slew of new games and entertainment experiences. When the Winter Olympics were held earlier this year we suddenly saw a bunch of featured mobile games revolving around various Winter Olympic sports (yes, even curling). And when Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters just recently, Marvel apps like Contest Of Champions were updated with new content accordingly. Efforts like these are part of what keep the mobile gaming market so fun and fresh. There’s always something new, and often it coincides with what’s going on in the real world.

With that in mind we’re looking ahead to the summer, and the World Cup soccer tournament that’s just around the corner. It’s probably the most significant sporting event on the entire planet, and has a way of generating interest even among those who don’t ordinarily love soccer. So, for anyone who anticipates watching some of the matches and getting into the spirit of it all come June, we have some suggestions for apps you might want to have at the ready – both for furthering your enjoyment of real world soccer and for filling the time between matches.

FIFA 18 Mobile App

There are going to be a lot of different apps out there that help you to follow the matches and keep track of basic data throughout the 2018 World Cup. But this is the app listed at the event’s official website, and is thus the most official one to follow. It’ll be a nice, comprehensive go-to resource for all things Cup-related.

World Cup Yeah!

World Cup Yeah! Is a nice alternative to the official app, and offers more of a complete fan experience, in a way. In addition to tracking scores (as well as tweets relevant to the action), the app will help you to learn about different stadiums and cities where the matches are being played, and even read up on some Cup history as you go. All things considered it might actually be more of a partner than an alternative to the official Cup app.

FanDuel

For those who aren’t familiar, FanDuel offers “daily fantasy” sports in which you can enter a paid contest, draft players for a given set of matches, and potentially win the contest based on how those players perform. There can be some differences in how points are awarded, but generally speaking you’re looking to draft offensive players and hope they produce. It should be a lot of fun during the Cup.

Score! World Goals

This is a brilliant app that’s been around for some time. On the surface it looks like a mobile soccer arcade, though it might be more accurately described, as one review stated, as a unique football-based puzzle game. The idea is basically that you get to recreate famous goals from soccer matches throughout history; the outcomes are decided, but you still have to make them happen. It’s a great way to get in the spirit of big matches and dramatic moments.

Dream League Soccer 18

This is something of a dark horse, but one that needs to be included. It’s only right to have one pure gaming experience on the list, and this one, for our money, beats the EA Sports FIFA mobile version. It’s just a great total soccer game involving team management, player improvement, tough competition and solid gameplay mechanics. Plus, you can fairly easily stack your team with superstars – just the types of players you’ll get so much excitement out of watching this summer.
